Hows this for a first chapter?
The moonlight cast down it’s silvery light through the branches of the bare trees which stood, whispering tales of the city through the forest for those who would stop to listen. Marisa, a young woman with long, black hair stood in the clearing beside Kioni Vesper, a Healer who lived amongst the trees. They stood in silence, until Marisa grew impatient with the quietness.
“What are we listening for?” She snapped, although she did so merely above a whisper. Kioni looked at Marisa, her dark blue eyes boring into Marisa’s pretty, hazel eyes. She raised her hand slowly and pressed her first finger to her lips, then she closed her eyes and stretched out her arms as if she were greeting the night. With a sigh, Marisa did the same and waited. Moonsong began; flowers bloomed and sang to the night, filling the air with sweet music. It soothed Marisa, because it reminded her of home. A quaint little cottage between land, sea and sky where the silver flowers in the meadow behind the house would open up and Moonsong would begin. She remembered laying awake in her bed to wait for Moonsong to sing her to sleep. Here, in Vinovia, hearing the flowers was rare, as there were little places for them to grow in the city and in the forest, you had to know where to find them. Marisa opened her eyes and turned to Kioni who smiled knowingly at the young woman.
“Thank you, Kioni,” she whispered and then closed her eyes to listen to the flowers. She laid down on the soft grass as she listened for the full midnight hour until the flowers finally quietened and curled back into the vines.
“Happy birthday Marisa,” the old woman said. Marisa looked at Kioni who was sat by a tree trunk. She did not look old, but wizened. Her face was lined, but not deeply and her curly, brown hair which hung around her shoulders didn’t have a single strand of grey and she stood tall rather than hunched like many of the elderly women in the city.
Marisa nodded and smiled. “Thank you for bringing me. It means a lot.”
“Don’t you go telling everybody about this, girl,” Kioni said sternly, but her eyes were warm. The two women stood and stretched out before they started walking back through the forest to Kioni’s small house on the outskirts of the forest at the bottom of the mountains. It was dark and the ground was covered in vines and huge tree roots, but Kioni walked swiftly through the trees and Marisa quickly followed with the careful, silent steps that Kioni had taught her to do. It was always safer to tread silently through a forest, so you didn’t awake any predators who’d happily eat you for supper and suck on your bones in the morning. When they reached the small house, they stepped inside and Marisa locked the door while Kioni went to the main room and started a fire. When Marisa had first become Kioni’s apprentice, she was only allowed to touch, hear and see what the old woman had wanted her to touch, hear and see. Something as simple as locking the door was out of the question, but now, Marisa was more of a friend or even daughter to Kioni and she was trusted.
“Marisa, gather the things for an Allseeing spell, I have a feeling something has happened tonight,” Kioni suddenly said in a sharp voice. The woman sat down on a small chair frowning. Marisa immediately gathered the items needed for the spell and quickly set them out. A large, clear glass bowl filled with pure water, a deep purple herb with was ground down fine like powder in a clear glass jar and a white candle, which she placed carefully in front of the fire. Kioni stood from the chair and knelt down in front of the bowl while Marisa sat to the side and watched carefully. The woman opened the jar with the purple herb and shook some into her palm, then closing her eyes she muttered a quiet blessing spell before throwing it into the water. The purple powder spread out in the water, transforming it into a rich purple liquid.
“Fire, I ask for your light,” Kioni said and a flame suddenly appeared on the candle with a quiet whoosh. The woman then began to murmur the spell and the water began to swirl around and around until it became clear again.
“It is ready,” Kioni said to Marisa who then quickly shuffled closer to peer into the water and focused her thoughts before opening her mind to allow the images into her head.
“What is coming?” Kioni asked quietly, looking deeply into the water. A small breeze swirled around the room and the flame flickered as the water began to swirl until an image began to form…
The sky was grey and the clouds rolled in with a rumble. A flash of lightening clapped through the sky. A man stood by the edge of a cliff, looking out onto the restless sea which was lapping up at the stones viciously.
“Alexander.”
The man turned and watched as a bald man in a long dark cloak hurried towards him. His eyes were bright with alarm as he reached into his cloak and pulled out a scroll. The man handed it to Alexander, who quickly unravelled it and
scanned the elegant script written apon it.
“So it has begun?” Alexander asked the bald man.
“I believe so,” the man answered in a nervous voice, “The end is coming. They are coming. We must be prepared. We must warn the people.”
Alexander frowned, “Where is my father? Is he not back yet?”
“I have sent the message, so he should be returning any day now,” the man answered. Alexander nodded and turned back to the ocean.
“Then let us return to the city, Wes,” he said quietly.
The water turned black and then returned to it’s original clearness. Marisa looked at Kioni confusedly.
“What did he mean? The end is coming? What was that all about?” She asked the woman who was now staring into the red embers in the fire. Marisa stood and walked over to the window, looking out onto the mountain. She started when a cold hand touched her shoulder. The woman turned and looked at Kioni who was looking fearful. “What is it Kioni?” Marisa whispers.
“It means, we are all in grave danger.”
Sorry I know it’s kind of long for something on YA, but I’d appreciate suggestions on how I can improve it and what you think of it.
Thankyou

(It’s set in a fictional world in a city called Vinovia)
Great use of vocabulary. And I really love the way, you’ve started it off describing a scene. But if your doing it that way, start of even more mysteriously. Don’t bother with names till Chapter 1 this can be your Prologue to get your story started
Story Writing Guidance/Opinions?!?
Hey, I’m having a go at writing a story, and here’s what I’ve gotten up to now:
“The drops of heavy rain shattered the silence of the saturated road of Lakeview Drive; a perfect suburban street on the outskirts of the town of Riverton, as Matilda Applegate left her car and greeted the spring showers. She ran into her house; holding her breifcase over her head to avoid getting her hair wet. Matilda loved it when the seasons changed; it was just part of her ever-changing personality. She loved the colours that autumn brought, the white coat the winter wore, the flowers the spring created, and the heat the summer delivered. Matilda walked down the hall before looking in the mirror to check that she still looked presentable. She smiled; Matilda had been told that she had very good looks, although she wasn’t vain at all, she didn’t think she was a plain Jane. Her eyes were a light blueish-purple; which everyone seemed to comment on. Her crimson lips were as tempting as ever, which complimented her olive skin. She quickly took off her long black raincoat and shoved it on the radiator to dry. It had been another hard day at the office. Nine to five really wasn’t her thing, and she longed to break through and persue her dream career of being on the big screen. She took off her purple scarf as her long brunette hair shimmered in the light. She groaned, it was another microwave meal. She wished that someday she’d walk home to a lovingly prepared meal by the man of her dreams, but that wasn’t going to happen any time soon. Matilda didn’t like being single, in fact she hated it, but a series of bad-dates had put her off trying to have a love life. She was twenty-nine; and her sisters, Kendra and Gabrielle, had always joked that when she was thirty, it was time for her to subscribe to CatFan Magazine and watch Loose Women, because to her it was the law. For her, being single at this age was hard. She sat there and didn’t really eat much. What a very nourishing meal that was she thought. The truth was she didn’t really have an appetite tonight. She got up shoved it back in the microwave, dragged herself up the stairs quickly got changed into her favourite pyjamas. She crawled into bed and fell into the comfort of her pillow, whilst listening to the rain battering against the window, and the wind howling. It was this night this changed her life forever.”
It is called ‘Remember My Name’ and is about Matilda trying to achieve her dream. I would like you to tell me what’s good, what’s bad and what could be better in this introduction! Then I would like you to give me your ideas of what could happen next. I had like a burgulary in mind or something which leads the story on. So whatcha got?
P.S. Do you think these are ok names for her family?

Found boyfriend looking at “personal ads” online under W4M and Casual Encounters
My boyfriend and I met online 8 months ago and have been together ever since. While I was over at his house today and because I’m trying to find a new place I decided to check the rental rooms section on Craigslist while he took a shower. I went to the website and the visited sections were highlighted in purple—women seeking men and casual encounters. I continued looking at the room postings and when he came in he knew right away that I had seen that he’d been to those sections. We sat there for awhile and I didn’t mention it but finally he told me he knew I’d seen it and said it was something he looked at while he masterbated because it had something to do with fantasies. Now, I don’t care that he watches porn, etc…I’m not insanely jealous and I’m pretty udnerstanding, but I have a hard time believing this. I’ve caught him looking at women for men section before and he said it was because he liked to look at them because they were funny. But it had been the only ad section he had opened up….He got kind of mad at me for not ‘trusting him’ but we have opposite work schedules, I work M-F day and he works every night except Thursday. I know Thursday is his only night off and I dont expect him to hang out with me every thursday night so some Thursdays I’ll do something else and he can go do his own thing. But he doesnt want to see me on weekends, he likes to “have alone time” or whatever. I don’t see him during the week except right before bed….so he has all day before work to “be alone.” .This Thursday he said we could hang out and then decides to tell me there’s a football game he wants to watch. He’s also based his days off of work around nights when “good T.V. shows” are on without one day off being the same as my days off. I have talked to him about all these issues and he said he just needs to grow up and he doesn’t want to lose me and he needs to get his priorities straight. So I guess my question is…should I ditch this guy or should I stay with him a little longer to see if he really tries to get his shit together and treat me right. I get along with his friends really well, they are mostly couples like us in their early 20′s, we do have fun together and we do have ‘tender’ moments where I feel like he does love me, he’s just a dumb guy who doesn’t know how to treat a girlfriend. He always makes comments about how he wants to be a better boyfriend. What to do?
Oh and I’ll throw in that we have a great sex life and I usually want it more!
I’m watching the Color Purple. Why does it have to be so sad?
They put Sophia in jail for not wanting to work for a white woman, and when she finally came out, she was old and badly beaten.
It’s so sad and I can’t believe that black people were actually treated like that back then!
One comment: I suggest not titling your novel before you write it. Your novel should make your title, not your title make the novel. Leave the door open to a plot twist even you weren’t expecting.
I have some discoloration and purple blotches down there near my girl parts. What is it?
Isn’t it time that we voted to make “feminism” an illegal HATE CRIME, since that is what it is…hate ?!!
There are proposals currently in over 30 US States for 2010, to make “feminism” a
classification of a HATE CRIME, along with “racism” , “bigotry” and all other forms
of pure HATE toward any gender, race, social class… and rightfully so. Its long
been known that FEMINISM is a very disgusting and ugly cancer on society and any
female who takes part in it, is not a normal female, and many are criminally insane,
fueling hatred and spewing disgusting lies and their own sick and silly sputtering.
Finally lobbying has accomplished some significant PROGRESS toward denouncing and
retarding the proliferation of this HATE phenomenon called FEMINISM.
FEMINISM IS A HATE CRIME.
It is likely that it will undoubtedly be a referendum vote in many States, but in
most, as with the ‘gay marriage’ issue, it will be a closed vote in the House &
Senate and a bill signed into law by the governors of each State.
Also attached to those bills are provisions that will restrict or limit, or
completely ban any outside funding of special interest “Women’s Studies” by the
Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, without also funding “Men’s Studies” programs
equally, on the basis and rationale of sex/gender discrimination and promoting HATE.
Thank God. People are finally starting to wake up!! Thankfully in recent polls,
nearly 90% of women do NOT consider themselves (or will not openly admit to ) being
of feminist value system, and agree that it was “stupid stuff women in the 70′s and
80′s did” . It is likely that FEMINISM IS ALREADY A TOTALLY DEAD HORSE. However, its
still important to classify it as a HATE CRIME and make it illegal.
Being found guilty of a hate crime like ‘feminism’ will carry stiff punishments,
according to proponents of the new bills. One year mandatory jail time in “must
prosecute” States.
Its about time…. finally some fresh air to breathe again !!!!
It has long been known that Feminism was created by Elite Men like
Rockefeller/Rothschild and the banking cartels to destroy humanity by splitting apart
the family. Why did women fall for this stunt ? Is it because they are not as adept
at scientific rationale ? Research has already shown women have smaller brains and
lower IQ’s than men, a result of thousands of years of evolutionary natural
selection, as different as the sex differences (females preferred mates more
intelligent toward carrying on genetic lineage), as well as males choosing physically
more attractive mates. It would seem not a lot has changed. In fact feminism has
rotted women out so badly that today’s young woman gets a job and buys a new pair of
boobs, men get sex for free and don’t have to compete for women anymore, just their
own jobs. Why do most people think women are so foolish to believe in feminism and
equality ? Equality is a joke. The elite who want to control the world and
exterminate 5.5 billion people, kill women and children every single day, dropping
bombs on them and calling it “heroic” and “patriotic”. Why do women CONTINUE to watch
feminism on TV, act like men, try to behave like men, and poison their own gender,
and men against them ?
Is it due simply to their LACK of INTELLIGENCE ? Men seem to get it. Few men ever
fell for ‘feminism’. Most seem to know that it is OTHER powerful wealthy elite MEN
who create and finance it !!!!
I wish women were equal to men..then if equally intelligent, they would have rejected
feminism and we would not be in the mess we are in now… What do you think ?
Notice the answers from women…will be poisoned with emotional outbursts and
childish rants, instead of intelligent discourse. No I do not think men and women are
equal. They have different skills and roles and should work toward having the
harmonious relationships that existed for centuries, prior to the INVENTION and
FUNDING of communism disguised as ‘equality’ by the economic elite. Rockefeller and
Rothschild and the Masons/Illuminati control, fund and promote it all. That means
they believe they OWN YOU ladies. There are NO FEMALES in their secret cults. Only
men… so why are you not as smart as they are ? Why don’t you mind-program the
masons/illuminate with your TV shows, instead of the other way around. You do as
you’re told ? You watch what they tell you to watch, and you behave like they tell
you to. This is your idea of ‘independance’ ? Oh silly girls… listen to a non-elite
banker male next time. It was all a lie… you fell for it. Not too bright….
It was a very sad time in our history—I find it hard to believe it actually happened in my lifetime and to some extent some minorities are still feeling the backlash. I don’t understand.
Many people believe the Holocaust never happened either—I Guess for some it’s easier to wear blinders than to face the truth. So sad.
Whatever you do…don’t scratch it.
HAHA
U don’t satisfy him!!!
